Stocks drift lower as investors worry soft retail sales signal spending will remain weak

Stocks drifted lower early Thursday as news of an improving job market failed to offset the market’s disappointment over sales at Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The Labor Department said new claims for unemployment insurance fell to a seasonally adjusted 502,000 from an upwardly revised 514,000 the previous week. That’s the fewest claims since the week ending Jan. 3, and below economists’ estimates.

The news is evidence the job market is slowly healing.

PowerVerde, Inc engages in the development, commercialization, and marketing of electric generating power systems to produce electrical power with zero emissions or waste stream byproducts. These systems are based on a unique patented pressure-driven motor and proprietary Organic Rankine Cycle (“ORC”) system. In 2008 the Company produced 10 kilowatts of electricity in a demonstration filmed by NBC affiliate KPNX channel 12 of Phoenix AZ. The only fuel was 160 degree water. PowerVerde is currently testing a 25/50 kilowatt system operating on the waste heat produced from a 200 HP Cummins diesel generator set. The company is also in collaboration with Sopogy, a leading provider of solar thermal heat recovery products. In this application solar heat is collected to power the ORC motor and make electricity from the sun The Company is also designing a pressure driven power systems used to create electricity from pressure letdowns associated with the natural gas and utility industry.
